The Coaches Corner University Podcast

The Science of Doing Hard Things - Tony Montgomery

Paul Oneid

On July 13th, I ruptured both my quad tendons in a powerlifting meet.  This podcast is the first recorded from my home hospital bed and I couldn't think of a better guest for it.

In this episode, I sit down with my great friend, former business partner and co-founder of Coaches Corner University, Tony Montgomery.  Tony is a 3rd year PhD in the department of kinesiology, applied health, and recreation at Oklahoma State University. His primary research interests are in utilizing exercise and psychological interventions such as cognitive reappraisal and growth mindset to improve mood states, motivation, and exercise adherence in populations with mood disorders. Outside of research, he enjoys exercising, backpacking, and writing poetry.

We discuss:
Paul’s injury
The limitations of research within the areas of strength and conditioning
Tony’s life update
Exercise and mental health
The psychology of exercise and facing challenges
The neuroplasticity of doing hard things
The difference between pushing limits and personal development
Identity and the pursuit of happiness
And more…
